Cole Thompson, Artist - Sculpture, Installation - Austin, Texas

artist statement

The largest body of my work has been focused in the areas of figurative, experiential installations, and kinetic art.

My figurative sculpture work has primarily consisted of manipulating human plaster cast forms to explore the realms of form and movement as well as using the human body to assist in conceptual installations.

In a series of interactive installations, I have created environments to hyper-stimulate and focus the participants' senses or to alter their perception of space. The physical involvement of the participants as well as the impact of nature and chance is intentionally integral to the presentation of these pieces.

While I always want my work to be provocative and aesthetically rewarding to others, the nuts and bolts of a piece are often the driving force behind my own creative energy. This personal fascination with mechanics quite often leads my work in a kinetic direction.

Although my interests are diverse, my primary drive is to explore the physical human experience and to create objects and experiences that are stimulating to others.
